SIUH/NYSNA NP Negotiation Update – July 1, 2021

After more than a year of good-faith negotiations, we are pleased to report that Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) and the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) have reached a tentative agreement on a collective bargaining agreement for our nurse practitioners (NPs).

NYSNA’s NP membership must vote to ratify the contract for it to take effect. The union will schedule a ratification vote shortly. SIUH leadership is unable to disclose the details until the NYSNA NP membership ratifies the agreement.

We believe the proposed collective bargaining agreement is fair for our NPs and will ensure the shared continued commitment to providing our patients and the community safe, quality health care. We are also hopeful that we will be able to carry over this positive momentum into our ongoing negotiations with SIUH’s nurses.

Thank you for your patience and support throughout the negotiation process. Your service and dedication are greatly appreciated.

SIUH/NYSNA NP Negotiation Update – June 8, 2021

Yesterday, Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) met virtually with the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) for our 24th negotiation session.

We once again made significant progress, reaching conceptual agreements on nearly all of the outstanding economic issues. Although SIUH and NYSNA worked collaboratively late into the night in hopes of finalizing your new collective bargaining agreement, there remain a few administrative and procedural details – specifically related to converting your current paid time off into vacation and personal time banks – that still need to be sorted out. We are optimistic both parties will be able to meet virtually in the coming days to work through those remaining issues.

SIUH/NYSNA NP Negotiation Update – May 26, 2021

Yesterday, Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) and the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) met virtually for our 23rd negotiation session.

With the help of a private mediator, we again had one of our most productive sessions to date. SIUH and NYSNA made tremendous progress and concluded the day with agreements in principle on many of the outstanding economic issues.

There are still several significant economic topics left to be resolved, including wages. However, if yesterday’s positive momentum continues at our next mediated session on June 7, we’re optomistic we will be able to finalize your new collective bargaining agreement sooner rather than later.

SIUH/NYSNA NP Negotiation Update – May 11, 2021

Yesterday, Staten Island University Hospital met virtually with the New York State Nurses Association for our 22nd negotiation session.

We continued to move progressively in our bargaining, ultimately solidifying four new tentative agreements on some of the last few outstanding non-economic issues. At our next session on May 25, both parties have once again agreed to welcome in a private mediator to help expedite the negotiations. With just two non-economic issues left to resolve, it is our hope that we can quickly find common ground so that we can focus on more substantive economic discussions with the mediator present.

SIUH/NYSNA NP Negotiation Update – May 3, 2021

This past Friday, Staten Island University Hospital and the New York State Nurses Association met virtually for our 21st negotiation session.

The parties continued to make steady, albeit slow progress, ending the day with two new tentative agreements. SIUH also presented several counter proposals on some of the last remaining non-economic topics that we hope to resolve before advancing to economic discussions. We look forward to continuing to discuss our latest proposals, and hope to accelerate Friday’s momentum at our next session on May 10.
