SIUH/NYSNA NP Negotiation Update – March 26, 2021
Yesterday, Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) met virtually with the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) for our 19th negotiation session, which both parties agreed to have facilitated by a private mediator.
It was a productive session that resulted in three significant agreements in principle – and more importantly demonstrated the union’s emerging open-mindedness about the unique relationships that exist between NPs and physicians. Specifically, SIUH and NYSNA conceptually agreed on a customized hiring process for NPs when SIUH acquires new physician or medical practices. The parties also found common ground regarding work schedules that are specific to NPs.
While there are still some important non-economic issues to resolve before we can advance the negotiation to discussions about wages and benefits, we’re encouraged by the positive momentum we gained yesterday. We look forward to formalizing yesterday’s agreements and making further progress at our next session on April 14.
