SIUH/NYSNA NP Negotiation Update – January 27, 2021
Yesterday, Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) and the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) met virtually for our 15th negotiation session.
Picking up where we left off last week, the parties continued to seek a balance between NYSNA’s concerns regarding per diem overuse with SIUH’s need for flexibility to rely on per diems to cover unplanned absences and vacancies. SIUH is disappointed that we spent another session focusing on an insignificant issue that should be simple to resolve. By the end of the negotiation session, NYSNA made meaningful movement to find middle ground on the per diem issue. While ultimately we fell short of reaching an agreement, we remain hopeful that we will do so at our next session on Feb. 9. Advancing the negotiations past this sticking point will enable the parties to turn their focus to more substantial issues.
