SIUH/NYSNA NP Negotiation Update – November 2, 2020
This past Friday we had our ninth negotiation session with the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) as we work toward establishing a new collective bargaining agreement for our nurse practitioners (NPs).
Although the day started off on a promising note with NYSNA expressing its commitment to demonstrate flexibility and compromise, we came out feeling deeply disappointed in the union’s lack of meaningful movement. Throughout these first nine sessions, the parties have plodded through just a handful of non-economic issues with very little progress to report. This sluggish pace is particularly concerning given the relatively minor nature of the issues being discussed. If the union continues to insist on rigidly applying contract provisions intended for RNs, then we will have a difficult time advancing these negotiations to more impactful topics.
If you haven’t already done so, we encourage you to sign up for text message updates about the status of negotiations by texting SIUHNP to 77295. Text messages are factual, infrequent and brief, and contain a link to the full update residing on this website. You may also opt out at any time.
We look forward to making further progress at our next negotiation session on Nov. 10, and will keep you updated.
